Trimming - Sculpture (2008) |
Nature is being lost in our concrete cities, gradually disappearing beneath the relentless expansion of urban development. Trimming aims to reconnect us with nature by symbolically chipping away at concrete structures to reveal the natural beauty that was lost.
The piece features a hatchet that was used to cut down a palm tree to make way for a concrete slab, juxtaposing creation and destruction. This act of chipping away at concrete represents reclaiming nature, uncovering what has been lost, and reminding us of the intrinsic value of nature.
Trimming encourages viewers to reflect on urbanization's impact on nature and consider integrating nature into our cities. It challenges us to rethink our relationship with the environment, inspiring appreciation and action to protect it. The artwork serves as a call to reconnect with nature, envisioning a future where green spaces are cherished and urbanization coexists harmoniously with the natural world.
